Applications for Hospitality Relief Funds Open Later This Month for Wayne County

By Sam Miller
A round of relief grants for the hospitality industry will be made available in Wayne County. The County Commissioners contracted the Wayne Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO) to administer the COVID-19 Hospitality Industry Recovery Program (CHIRP). CHIRP funds are available to businesses classified as Accommodations or Food Services and Drinking Place. The grants are awarded in $5,000 increments up to $50,000 and can be used to cover operating expenses not covered by Federal or State PPP and CARES loans. A business is not disqualified from CHIRP if they did receive PPP or CARES funding in the past. While no application process is available now, WEDCO Director Mary Beth Wood said that one will be available by March 15th.
