Callicoon Business Association to Turn Train Depot into Town Commons

By Sam Miller
The Callicoon Business Association in Callicoon, NY has signed a deal to lease the Central New York Railroad Corporation depot long term. The CBA plans to rehabilitate the 1896 structure into a visitor’s center and then later a “town commons” area. The CBA says that the building will be able to host community functions such as performances, workshops, small-business support, and private events. Parking needs will be addressed both on site and by means of a comprehensive, hamlet-wide parking study that has been undertaken in cooperation with the Town of Delaware. This project has so far secured roughly $450,000 in grants and donations. Open houses are planned for this spring.
