Efforts to Rehabilitate Several Wayne County Dams Progressing

The Hankins Pond Dam
Rehabilitative construction of at-risk dams in Wayne County will begin this year. Several years ago the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission identified four dams in the County that were deteriorating and posed a threat to lives and property downstream and so began draining the ponds as a precaution. Efforts to fix the dams have been underway since, and in the most recent update the Commission says that the Lower Woods Pond Dam is nearly complete with the permitting phase and construction is estimated to begin in fall or winter of this year. Construction on the Miller Pond and White Oak Pond Dams are anticipated to begin in early to mid 2022. All of these projects should be completed with the ponds refilled by 2024. The Hankins Pond Dam is the only one that will not be going through reconstruction, and instead is being leased to Wayne County
