Historical Marker Honoring Dick Smith Approved

By Sam Miller
Honesdale native and lyricist Richard Smith, the man who wrote “Winter Wonderland”, will be memorialized with a special marker later this year. The Greater Honesdale Partnership announced that their application for a Historical Blue Marker, a sign commemorating historically significant persons, places, or events, was accepted by the PA State Historical and Museum Commission. The Blue Marker will be placed outside Smith’s family home of 922 Church Street in Honesdale during a ceremony on November 27th this year. Smith wrote Winter Wonderland about Honesdale’s Central Park in the snow. The efforts to get the Marker were made possible by GHP Intern Lillian Slate who did the historical research as part of the application, and a monetary donation from Representative Jonathan Fritz’s family to pay for the marker.
