Honesdale Senior Center to be Renovated

By Sam Miller
The Wayne County Area Agency on Aging recently was awarded a $143,505 grant to renovate the Earl J. Simons senior center in Honesdale. The money will be used to fund renovations to the basement of the structure. The basement has seen increasing use for activities and office space as the Agency has expanded. Mary Ursich, Aging Administrator with the Agency on Aging, explains some of the planned changes.

Ursich: "What we are going to be doing is replacing some of the more temporary walls and putting more permanent walls there. We think that will be safer and more appealing to not have these make-shift walls that we have. To do that we are going to have to move around the coolers and some electrical stuff will have to be moved. And then we are going to replace all the ceiling and flooring tiles."

They also plan to install a generator that will provide power to the kitchens and the elevator in case of an outage. The County opened two bids this week for potential contractors to do the work, which will be decided on at a later date.
