Reminder: Deadline to Register for May Primary is Today

By Sam Miller
Today is the last day to register to vote in the upcoming Primary Election. Unlike a normal primary, which is limited to registered members of a political party, any Pennsylvanian age 18 and over can vote in this election. This is due to four ballot questions being up for the vote. These include two proposed amendments to the State Constitution that would affect emergency declarations. One would allow the General Assembly to end or extend emergency declarations without the approval of the Governor, and the other would limit emergency declarations to 21 days unless the General Assembly agrees to extend it while also preventing the Governor from making another declaration for the same crisis. Another proposed amendment would create a constitutional prohibition against restricting or denying an individual’s equal rights under Pennsylvania law because of race or ethnicity. The final ballot question would allow PA municipal fire companies and departments to apply for loans through a state program. The Municipal Primary is set for May 18th.
