VIP Holding Events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

By Sam Miller
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Victim’s Intervention Program of Wayne and Pike Counties has a number of events planned. Teal is the color of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and in the vein of Wayne County Rocks, VIP has left teal rocks with inspiring messages and helpful information around Wayne County. Anyone who finds a rock is encouraged to share it on social media and either leave the rock where it was or relocate it for someone else to find. April 6th is the Day of Action. VIP members will be wearing teal and teaming up with local cafes for spreading awareness with “I Ask for Consent” coffee sleeves. The annual Take Back the Night event is set for April 21st on the Wayne County Courthouse lawn at 5:30pm, with a rain date of April 28th. Other events into the “What were they wearing?” display to show that outfits are not indicative of sexual assault victimhood, and special guest speakers.
