Wayne County Purchases Lease for Walking Trail Program

By Sam Miller
Efforts to create a walking path along the Lackawaxen River connecting Hawley and Honesdale advanced when Wayne County entered into a lease deal for riverside land. The property on Riverside Drive in White Mills will be used as part of the proposed trails system being created by the Trails and Waterways Alliance. The County has leased the property for $1 a year for 25 years, at which point it can be renewed for an additional 25 years. The Alliance is under $3,000 away from their $40,000 fundraising goal. This money will be used for match grants from the PA Fish & Boat Commission to further the project.
