Wayne County to Dedicate Picnic Table in Memory of Special Olympics Advocate

By Sam Miller
A handicap accessible picnic table at the Wayne County Park Street Complex will be dedicated next week in remembrance of the lives lost to COVID-19. In particular, the table is in honor of Megan Ashley Pitino of Greentown, who dedicated tremendous amounts of time and effort to Area P Special Olympics as a Track & Field Coach and advocate. Pitino also lobbied for the creation of two Bocce ball courts at the County’s Park Street Complex, where she would bring Area P athletes to practice from August to October. She died due to COVID-19 related complications in December. She continued her dedicated work even while in the Hospital where she drew winners for a raffle she organized that raised $3,500 for the Special Olympics. The county maintains a small park at the Park Street Complex, which is where the table will be dedicated by the County Commissioners on Thursday, March 25 at 1 pm.
