Wayne Pike Trails and Waterways Alliance Changes Name, Gets Grant from Villaume Foundation
When outdoor activities soared last year, the Wayne Pike Trails and Waterways Alliance was already ahead of the move. The local organization has been working to connect sections of trails from Honesdale through White Mills and Hawley, and create water access ramps along the Lackawaxen River. The project has received plenty of support from local residents, business owners, community leaders and governmental agencies. Most recently, the organization's name transitioned to Lackawaxen River Trails and the Villaume Foundation committed a $40,000 challenge grant. Fund-raising is underway to meet that challenge and donations are being accepted at the Wayne County Community Foundation. A designated page has been established on the website waynefoundation.org, just click on the rotating Lackawaxen River Trails banner. In addition to hiking trails, fishing access, and boat launches for kayaks and canoes, plans include dry compost bathrooms and parking areas.
